John's Humility as God's servant

19 Now this was John’s testimony when the Jewish leaders in Jerusalem sent priests and Levites to ask him who he was.
20 He did not fail to confess, but confessed freely, “I am not the Messiah.”

  • John although was sent by God to baptize as his calling. He never claimed himself as the Messiah. But there people today claimed to be like a savior. I would like to mention a man called "Quiboloy" in Davao City Philippines. He kept on bragging that he was the son of God like Jesus. Many people deceived on his false teachings. He also lived in a luxurious life with a mansion and body guards. Watch for him, do not listen to his teaching. He is an anti-christ.

21 They asked him, “Then who are you? Are you Elijah?” He said, “I am not.” “Are you the Prophet?” He answered, “No.”
22 Finally they said, “Who are you? Give us an answer to take back to those who sent us. What do you say about yourself?”
23 John replied in the words of Isaiah the prophet, “I am the voice of one calling in the wilderness, ‘Make straight the way for the Lord.’ ”

  •  John never had any biblical course degree but was used by God to prepare His way.
  • His message was about repentance through water baptism as a sign of obedience to God.
24 Now the Pharisees who had been sent
25 questioned him, “Why then do you baptize if you are not the Messiah, nor Elijah, nor the Prophet?”
26 “I baptize with water,” John replied, “but among you stands one you do not know.
27 He is the one who comes after me, the straps of whose sandals I am not worthy to untie.”

  • John obviously referring to the Lord Jesus who's gonna come after Him. We can see here John's humility that he is unworthy to even untie Jesus sandals.
  • God always wants to remain humble whatever achievement we might have. Stay down to earth for all things were just temporary. We cannot bring anything when we die.
28 This all happened at Bethany on the other side of the Jordan, where John was baptizing.

  • To baptize people was John's ministry. It was interesting to me he wasn't called to do other task but to baptize only with water. Each of us has a unique calling like John. Regardless what it is we have to be just obedient to God and He will do the rest. We won't grow weary to obey God's calling in our lives because in the right time we will see the results.

The Life We Ought To Be.

If there is one thing that you love most in you life, what is it? John 5:13-15 The verses below was about the invalid man for 38-years  whom Jesus healed. It was Jesus who offered the healing for him.  13 The man who was healed had no idea who it was, for Jesus had slipped away into the crowd that was there. 14 Later Jesus found him at the temple and said to him, “See, you are well again. Stop sinning or something worse may happen to you.” 15 The man went away and told the Jewish leaders that it was Jesus who had made him well. In all the things in the world. It was the "sin" that Jesus was telling him to stop. Jesus said to him "... Stop sinning or something worse may happen to you.” Does it mean he's gonna be invalid or disable again? I don't think so. This means that sin in our lives does not have a good result. Jesus was telling him that if he keeps on sinning it's going to ruin his spiritual life. See friends, Jesus was not only helpin...

Christmas is LIFE!

John 5: 26 26   For as the Father has life in himself, so he has granted the Son also to have life in himself.   One week more to go for Christmas. I'm pretty sure all are excited celebrating holidays with with loved ones. But don't you know that Christmas is about life?  As God gave His only Son so everyone who believes will have eternal life (Jn 3:16). This would tell that God is a life giver. As He himself has life.  Can you give your life to others this Christmas? Not necessarily a material thing but perhaps a short period of time by spending or even sharing your life to other people would be a greatest gift you can give. And if you have  ever wondered where the life come from. It's from God.  For God himself is life. Therefore, He is the source and the author of life. It's gonna be 2018 next year. It's gonna be another year to add to our age. Another life to thank God that He remains faithful to us. Friends, as ...
