John - 1:35-42 "John point his disciples to Christ".

35 The next day John was there again with two of his disciples.
  • Here was can see John the baptist has disciples or followers. Who are these disciples we don't know. Their names are not important; what really matters is John was able to lead people into God's kingdom.
36When he saw Jesus passing by, he said, “Look, the Lamb of God!”
  • This is the second time John was describing Jesus as the Lamb of God, first was in verse 29. The lamb in the Israel days is a perfect sacrificial animal to the temple for their sins. Once a year the priest will offer it for the sins of the people. John was saying here that Jesus is a perfect sacrifice of God.
  • Remember that John's audience here were Jews. It's interesting how brave he was speaking to Jews that Jesus is the Lamb of God. He was telling them Jesus was their only savior.
37 When the two disciples heard him say this, they followed Jesus.
  • See what the two disciples were doing here. They followed Jesus. Remember these are John's disciples and now they followed Jesus. If we have people in our ministry, encourage to follow Jesus not us. We are only instruments; and our goal is always to point them to Christ.
38 Turning around, Jesus saw them following and asked, “What do you want?”They said, “Rabbi” (which means “Teacher”), “where are you staying?”39 “Come,” he replied, “and you will see.”So they went and saw where he was staying, and they spent that day with him. It was about four in the afternoon.
  • How did these two disciples learned that Jesus was a teacher? of course through John. John was teaching them who Jesus was.
  • Jesus didn't neglect them instead He told them to come with him and to have fellowship with him.
  • That's Jesus heart to all who is willing to come to Him. He's gonna open his arms and embrace with love.
40 Andrew, Simon Peter’s brother, was one of the two who heard what John had said and who had followed Jesus.

41 The first thing Andrew did was to find his brother Simon and tell him, “We have found the Messiah” (that is, the Christ).
  • So it was Andrew was one of the two disciples of John who followed Jesus later. He first contact his brother and shared Jesus to him. See, Andrew first witness was his brother Simon. In other words he shared Jesus to the member of his family first. We can learn here that our first ministry to share Jesus to our family members. Before reaching others, we have to reach out our loved one first.
42 And he brought him to Jesus. Jesus looked at him and said, “You are Simon son of John. You will be called Cephas” (which, when translated, is Peter ).
  • Andrew didn't stop only of sharing Jesus to his brother Peter. But he went ahead and introduce him to Jesus. Which means he took the effort of letting Peter know Jesus more.
  • It's not enough if we only share Jesus to our loved ones. We have to also let them grow in their personal relationship with Jesus.

The Son of Man

John 5: 27   And he has given him authority to judge because he is the Son of Man.   Here we see Jesus relationship with the Father. How intimate it is that the Father gave him the authority to judge.  But what does "Son of Man" mean? This does not mean that Jesus was son of Joseph the husband of Mary who conceived Jesus through the Holy Spirit. Let's read the book of   Daniel 7: 13-14  to help us understand why Jesus has this title being the "Son of Man". 13 “In my vision at night I looked, and there before me was one like a son of man, coming with the clouds of heaven. He approached the Ancient of Days and was led into his presence. 14 He was given authority, glory and sovereign power; all nations and peoples of every language worshiped him. His dominion is an everlasting dominion that will not pass away, and his kingdom is one that will never be destroyed. Jesus was obviously fulfilling the prophecy of Daniel when he said in...

The Road.

John 5:23 23 that all may honor the Son just as they honor the Father. Whoever does not honor the Son does not honor the Father, who sent him.  Jesus statement became more not acceptable to the ears of Jewish leaders this time. Notice, He said "all may honor the Son". Not some. Therefore each and everyone must give honor to Him.  John in his little book in First John make it more dangerous. He used the word "deny" which has the same verb meaning with  disagree, renounce, decline even refuse or reject.  1 John 2:23 Whosoever denieth the Son, the same hath not the Father:  (but) he that acknowledgeth the Son hath the Father also . (KJV). But you see, how God gives us the chance? Both Jesus and John didn't stop there. They still gives options that those who honors and acknowledges the Son does the same to the Father. There is no bypass at all. Must go through Jesus always.  Let's back up a little of what John has said "whoe...

Who are the Pharisees?

John 5: 16-18 16   So, because Jesus was doing these things on the Sabbath, the Jewish leaders began to persecute him.  17   In his defense Jesus said to them,  “My Father is always at his work to this very day, and I too am working.”   18   For this reason they tried all the more to kill him; not only was he breaking the Sabbath, but he was even calling God his own Father, making himself equal with God.  It's amazing to know that God has always and would not stop working in my life. As I still have things in life that I need God's mercy to change and mold me. In spite of being not perfect, yet I have a perfect and loving God who always there for me. Lift me up in times of down and sad moments. Every single day, God through His word speaks to me and with His Holy Spirit who convicts and leads me to obey His word. I can't go on serving Him without His grace.  The powerful response of Jesus in verse 17 destructed ...
