John 1: 9 - 14 " Jesus humility gave us right to become God's children"

The true light came into the world.

9 The true light that gives light to everyone was coming into the world.
  • True light - During this time Pharisees and other teachers of the law claimed to be the light but stumbled a lot of people. Therefore, they are considered as "false light".
  • Gives light to everyone - Jesus was giving everyone the light for them to see the truth since they were blind of their sins.
10 He was in the world, and though the world was made through him, the world did not recognize him.

  • He was in the world - Referring to Jesus life on earth; living as human with his disciples. Did his ministry like preaching, teaching and healing. And the most important was his obedient to the Father by dying on the cross to redeem us from condemnation.
  • ...world was made through him - It goes back to verse 3 "Through him all things were made;" Although the "world" could be the people because John continued to say "...did not recognize him".
11 He came to that which was his own, but his own did not receive him.
  • ...which was his own - the Jews, the choose people of God. We knew in the Old Testament God have chosen the Jews. And here it says "He came.. which was his own".. In this context it was Jesus who came into the world. Meaning Jesus already existed in the Old Testament and chose the Jews as His own.
  • ...his own did not receive him - it's because in the Jews mind, the coming messiah is a king, a conquering king that will save them from the Roman empire. Isaiah 9:6-7 For to us a child is born, to us a son is given, and the government will be on his shoulders. And he will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. Of the increase of his government and peace there will be no end. He will reign on David’s throne and over his kingdom, establishing and upholding it with justice and righteousness from that time on and forever.

12 Yet to all who did receive him, to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God—
  • ...all who did receive him - He welcomes everyone. Jesus has been knocking each heart to receive Him.
  • ...who believed in his name - trust Him as personal Lord and Savior. Personal relationship so to speak.
  • ...right to become children of God - when we receive and believe Jesus. God called us sons and daughters. Notice Jesus gave us the right not a privilege.
13 children born not of natural descent, nor of human decision or a husband’s will, but born of God.

  • In other words we will become a spiritual God's son and daughters. We can call Him Abba Father. We are spiritual restored with Him now through His Son Jesus when we believed.
14 The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory, the glory of the one and only Son, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth

  • This is the Word that was mention in V1 "In the beginning was the Word... The Word was with God. The Word was God.
  • He became flesh or human. He was God by nature but became human.
  • No one in the Bible that is God by nature and became human-only Jesus.

Personal application:
My prayer is to have Jesus humility in my life. Who is God by nature but he dwells among us and live a very human life. He gave up his throne for all us. Are we willing to give up everything and follow him?

The Life We Ought To Be.

If there is one thing that you love most in you life, what is it? John 5:13-15 The verses below was about the invalid man for 38-years  whom Jesus healed. It was Jesus who offered the healing for him.  13 The man who was healed had no idea who it was, for Jesus had slipped away into the crowd that was there. 14 Later Jesus found him at the temple and said to him, “See, you are well again. Stop sinning or something worse may happen to you.” 15 The man went away and told the Jewish leaders that it was Jesus who had made him well. In all the things in the world. It was the "sin" that Jesus was telling him to stop. Jesus said to him "... Stop sinning or something worse may happen to you.” Does it mean he's gonna be invalid or disable again? I don't think so. This means that sin in our lives does not have a good result. Jesus was telling him that if he keeps on sinning it's going to ruin his spiritual life. See friends, Jesus was not only helpin...

What are your New Year's resolution?

I'm pretty sure we have New Year's resolution in our bucket list for the year 2018. We've been accustomed to have one. But are we going to really follow all of them? It's been common for most us to make a list of our New Year's resolution but we cannot deny the fact that we failed to follow them.  In these verses below, Paul explained the reason why we all fail.   “There is no one righteous, not even one;  there is no one who understands;  there is no one who seeks God.  All have turned away, they have together become worthless;  there is no one who does good, not even one.”  Romans 3:10-12. These verses simply means regardless of what religion you have or you belongs to. You are dead in the eyes of God. There are no exceptions.  Now, since there is no one is righteous that means no one can see God. That's why Christ died for our sins so we'll have access to God through Him. He is only perfect man who is God by nature who...

The Son of Man

John 5: 27   And he has given him authority to judge because he is the Son of Man.   Here we see Jesus relationship with the Father. How intimate it is that the Father gave him the authority to judge.  But what does "Son of Man" mean? This does not mean that Jesus was son of Joseph the husband of Mary who conceived Jesus through the Holy Spirit. Let's read the book of   Daniel 7: 13-14  to help us understand why Jesus has this title being the "Son of Man". 13 “In my vision at night I looked, and there before me was one like a son of man, coming with the clouds of heaven. He approached the Ancient of Days and was led into his presence. 14 He was given authority, glory and sovereign power; all nations and peoples of every language worshiped him. His dominion is an everlasting dominion that will not pass away, and his kingdom is one that will never be destroyed. Jesus was obviously fulfilling the prophecy of Daniel when he said in...
